Early
life
Rupert Alexander Lloyd Grint was born on 24th August 1988 in Stevenage,
Hertfordshire, England, UK. His father, Nigel Grint once ran a
Motor Car Racing Memorabilia Company and his mother, Joanne (nee
Parsons) is a housewife. Rupert has one brother, James and three
sisters, Georgina, Samatha and Charlotte. Before being cast as
Harry potter's sidekick, Ron Weasley in 2001, Rupert had appeared
in some school and local theatre productions. These were Noah's
Ark, Cinderella and Rumpelstiltskin. At 16 he left his all boys
school after taking his GCSE's to concentrate on his acting in
the Harry Potter franchise.
Ron
Weasley
Rupert auditioned for the part of Ron Weasley by sending in a video
of himself rapping and doing hip hop saying why he should get the
part, of course he did. He was told he had got the part with Emma
Watson who plays Hermione Granger by Chris Columbus and David Heyman.
Rupert has gone on to play Ron in all seven films, the seventh being
filmed as this is being written.
Other
Roles
After filming the first Harry Potter, Rupert got a role in 'Thunderpants',
which was released in 2002. Rupert missed out in being in 'The Cinderella
Story' in 2004 due to his committments to the Harry Potter Franchise.
It clashed with the Harry Potter Prisoner of Azkaban filming schedule.
After filming the fourth Harry Potter, Rupert starred in 'Driving
Lessons' with his Harry Potter screen mother, Julie Walters. Rupert
plays shy Ben Marshall. This film was released in 2006 and Rupert
recieved praise from the critics for his role "riotous comedic
timing" and "fantastic screen chemistry" with Julie
Walters.
In
2010 Rupert is having 'Cherrybomb' and 'Wild Target' released. Cherrybomb
is a completely different film from the world of Harry Potter. Playing
Malachy in a gritty thriller about two teenagers who get into trouble
when they both fall for a beautiful new girl in town. This sees Rupert
tackle an Irish accent and a nude scene. Critical reviews have been
very positive about his role. Wild Target is a remake of 1993 French
film Cible Emouvante. Rupert plays Tony. The film also stars Bill
Nighy and Emily Blunt.
Voice Over work
Rupert has done voice overs for radio, video games and TV. For BBC
Radio 4 Rupert voiced Nigel Molesworth in the Baggy Trousers series.
For the BBC documentry for Peter Pan he voiced Peter Pan in 2005
and he has voiced the character Ron for the Order of the Phoenix
and Half-Blood Prince video games.
